Exterior Lighting

One of the most effective ways to add security to a home is by adding or upgrading exterior lighting. Exterior lighting deters theft and vandalism and makes it easier to detect suspicious or criminal activity around a residence. Many companies offer exterior lighting with built-in cameras; the lighting enhances the camera's ability to capture video and images during hours of darkness.

The Ring corporation makes a variety of lighting products and many of them have camera systems built in. Images and video captured via a Ring product are easy to share with the Police Department via our Ring Neighborhood Portal.

Upgrade existing light fixtures by adding a motion sensor "socket" or a bulb with a built-in motion sensor. Once upgraded, the porch light or exterior fixture will illuminate anytime it senses motion. These fixtures and bulbs are available at local home centers or online retailers.

Dusk to Dawn Lights

Dusk-to-dawn lights have a built-in sensor that will turn the fixture on with darkness and off as the sun comes up. This is a low-tech and affordable solution that does not require a smart device or home network to control. These products come in bulbs, fixtures or adapters for existing lights.
