Safe Rental Properties

 

The Safe Rental Properties program is a partnership between the Police Department and property owners aimed at reducing crime in and around rental properties and fostering a safer community.

Once established and properly enforced, the program will develop a more stable and satisfied tenant base, increase property value, reduce crime and fear of crime on the property and improve personal safety for tenants and landlords/managers.

Program Services

Once part of the program, which is at no cost to the property, the Police Department will offer the following services:

  • A monthly report of all calls for service on the property.
  • At the request of the owner/manager, provide a FREE emailed copy of any report taken on the property.
  • A window sticker for display at the property office.
  • A bi-annual newsletter to distribute to the residents on the property.
  • Recognition on the City’s website as a program participant.

Program Requirements

  • Property must use and enforce the Crime-Free Lease Addendum, which must be signed by all adults on the lease.
  • Although not required, we request a thorough background check be completed on all applicants.
  • Must sign a Terms of Agreement with the Police Department.
  • Must distribute a bi-annual newsletter to the tenants, delivering crime prevention tips.
  • Must provide entry code, after-hours contact and maps to the Police Department.
