Police Officer Positions

Certified / Lateral Entry Police Officer

To be eligible, applicants must hold a valid Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Class A Certification or be able to obtain one by transferring out-of-state law enforcement credentials. Pay is based on a lateral entry scale that rewards up to five years of law enforcement experience.

Recruit Officer

We are currently processing applicants for the June 2024 KCPD Police Academy class. Once those applicants are processed, applications for recruit officers will be accepted in late May or early June.

Civilian Positions

Detention Officer

Detention officers work 12-hour shifts at our jail facility and must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays. The minimum age requirement is 18 years of age.

Animal Control Officer

Animal control officers are responsible for enforcing animal laws. This position works both in the community and at the Animal Shelter. Animal control officers work nine-hour shifts, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 2 to 11 p.m., and must be willing to work on weekends and holidays. The application deadline is April 26.
