City of Lee’s Summit Acquires Raptor Sculpture, A Community Favorite

We heard a lot of questions asking where the raptor went once the new round of sculptures were installed as part of the Downtown Sculpture Walk this spring. We are excited to announce that the City has purchased “Raptor” adding the beloved steel dinosaur to the City’s permanent public art collection.

Not long after the sculpture was installed at the fire station in downtown Lee’s Summit it quickly became a favorite focal point with families and adults stopping to take a look and a selfie with the unique reptile.

The public played an active role in helping the Lee’s Summit Arts Council and the Cultural Arts Division in identifying the most popular sculpture. Throughout the year, residents and visitors could complete a quick survey to vote for their favorite. No surprise that Raptor had won by a landslide.

Seeing how much Raptor had won the hearts of the community, it was decided to purchase the sculpture and give it a permanent home for residents to enjoy for years to come. The Raptor has been moved to its new location on the plaza in front of City Hall located at 220 SE Green St. Stop by and take a look or snap a selfie, just remember to please be kind to the art by not climbing on it. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this fun dino for years to come.

The acquisition of Raptor was made possible through funding from the Downtown Community Improvement District and the Industrial Development Authority.
