The City of Lee's Summit is actively engaged in a strategic planning process - Ignite! Your ideas. Our future. - to capture the long-term vision for the community and provide direction for the organization. The mayor, city council, senior management, stakeholders and citizens embarked on this process in February 2019.

The end of the strategic planning phase marks the beginning of the Implementation Phase as City Council works with City employees, citizens and community partners (C4) to implement the critical success factor objectives and move the community toward the articulated vision.

Strategic Planning Phase - February 2019 - June 2019
Community input has been gathered through a series of public meetings and online discussion forums. Using this input, City Council has drafted a new vision and mission statement for the organization. Seven critical success factors necessary to achieve the City's vision have been defined.

September 2020 - Adopt Implementation Plan
The Implementation Plan is adopted by City Council on September 8, 2020.

November - Implementation Phase
The City held a Kick-Off Celebration to mark the beginning of the Implementation Phase on November 25, 2019. C4 Teams held initial meetings.

July - Finalize Strategic Plan
The strategic plan framework is finalized and adopted by City Council. 

June - City Council Retreat
City Council held a second retreat on June 14 and 15, 2019 to discuss the community's feedback on the draft strategic plan elements and finalize the vision, mission and critical success factors.

April - Seek Community Input
Community meetings were held on April 24 and 25, 2019 to gather feedback on the draft strategic plan elements.

April - Review Input and Prepare Draft
City Council held a strategic planning retreat on April 5 and 6, 2019 to review initial community input gathered during Community Conversations and Focus Groups. A vision statement and critical success factors were drafted.

February/March - Focus Groups
Focus groups were held February 27, 28 and March 1, 2019 with stakeholders from various organizations to gather concerns, challenges and opportunities they have for the City.

February - Community Conversations
Community Conversations regarding the strategic planning process were held February 27 and 28, 2019.
