Garage Door Security

Keeping garage doors secure is a great way to reduce theft and loss. Thieves know there are valuable items stored in garages such as power tools, golf clubs, powered lawn equipment and expensive hand tools. With an unlocked vehicle in the driveway, a thief may find a garage opener inside the car and once they press the button, they have full access to valuables and vehicles.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution that is easy to install, works with most major brands and provides peace of mind and convenience. The MyQ garage door sensor system is affordable, easy to install and adds several features to the existing garage door openers. Many new garage door opener models have the MyQ technology built in along with other technology like battery backup to raise and lower the door during a power outage. 

The MyQ system allows users to:

  • Raise and lower the garage doors with a smart device.
  • Check the status of the garage doors via a smart device.
  • Set alerts and "routines" to notify the user if a garage door is left open.

Interior Door Security

Securing the door leading from the garage into the home is important. If the interior door already has a lock, people are sometimes reluctant to use it out of convenience. Fortunately, technology has solved this problem. Companies like Schlage and Kwikset have created standard door locks and deadbolts that don't require a key. Many of these locksets feature a keypad to enter a PIN to unlock the door; some allow smart watches and phones to be used. These "smart" locksets can be connected to the home network allowing the resident to lock, unlock and monitor the status of the interior door lock from a smart device. Securing the interior door from the garage (or front door) ensures that if the garage door is left open, a thief would not be able to access the interior of the home.
