Police Department Releases New Home and Vehicle Security Video

The Lee's Summit Police Department released a new video to help residents reduce their chances of being the victim of theft. The new video is part of a year-long S.N.A.P. (Secured Neighborhoods and Property) initiative that aims to reduce preventable crime for residents and business owners. By following simple tenants, residents can greatly reduce their exposure to crime. Detectives Investigating Early Morning Domestic Disturbance

Lee’s Summit, MO – On Monday, 1/23/2023 at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 900 block of NE Bristol Drive on the report of a domestic disturbance inside a residence.  As officers arrived on scene, they quickly learned that a male suspect inside the house had fired multiple shots from a handgun during the disturbance.  Officers quickly evacuated the two remaining persons from the scene and set a perimeter around the incident.  Tactical officers and vehicles were called to the scene to negotiate with the man and resolve the situation.  Officers used drones and robots to enter the residence and search for the suspect after he refused to speak with negotiators on the phone.  Eventually, chemical irritants were deployed to the interior of the house and the robot was once again used to search interior of the home.  When the...

Officers Locate Unique Item During an Arrest

On January 6th, 2023, plain clothes officers with our Crime Reduction Team were working in one of our shopping centers to apprehend shoplifters. As the officers were coordinating their efforts with one of the businesses, they were alerted to a suspect that was walking out of the store with a large amount of merchandise. Our officers detained the suspect and began their investigation. The investigation would reveal that the suspect had fled the store with approximately $6500 worth of clothing, electronics, jewelry and cologne; the suspect also showed up that day in a vehicle that was listed as stolen out of Kansas City, MO. A search of the stolen car would reveal additional stolen items from other retailers and one item that stood out; a large, silver trophy. Chief Travis Forbes is pleased to announce the promotion of Sergeant Scott Liles to the rank of Captain. Captain Liles has been with the LSPD since 1995 and served in a variety of roles within the department. Captain Liles position was made possible through funds approved by the voters via the Public Safety Sales Tax. Congratulations to Captain Liles!
