Jackson County Property Taxes

Beginning Oct. 1, the City will soft-launch its new tax payment collection service, which will become fully operational on Oct. 6.

Jackson County personal property, business, and real tax bills can be paid at the City of Lee’s Summit City Hall. The City hopes this added convenience is beneficial for residents who prefer to pay in-person, and we also receive revenue (1% of the total tax dollars collected at City Hall) by processing payments for Jackson County.

Jackson County Tax Credits

Jackson County is planning property-tax credits tied to 2023 and 2024 residential assessments.

Under County Executive Phil LeVota’s Executive Order 26-27, the County is identifying residential parcels where the 2023 and/or 2024 assessed value increased by more than 15% over the 2022 assessed value, subject to exceptions such as new construction or improvements. For eligible properties, the County intends to calculate the difference between the taxes originally billed and what the taxes would have been using the corrected assessment.

Any overpayment would be divided into three equal credits and applied to property-tax obligations:

  • For Tax Years 2025, 2026, and 2027 – these credits will be reflected on bills beginning in October 2026.
  • For Tax Years 2026, 2027, and 2028 – these credits will be reflected on bills beginning in November 2026.

There are some exceptions. For any questions related to 2023, 20224 tax credits, please reach out to Jackson County.

The County has said the credits could affect more than 200,000 Jackson County taxpayers.
