The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will host a blood drive on Monday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City’s Maintenance Facility located at 1971 SE Hamblen Road. The Community Blood Center has declared its first blood emergency of 2023 as blood donations dip even lower and patient needs remain high. In January, Community Blood Center received 2,000 fewer blood donations than in January 2022 and blood donations are below hospital and patient need The Community Blood Center says now more than ever is the time to donate. Cold and flu season mixed with a decrease in first-time donors have all caused blood donations to decrease significantly over the past several weeks. Do you like building puzzles? Are you competitive? Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce its new, upcoming puzzle competition, which will challenge teams of 2-4 people. This is a 2-hour Jigsaw Puzzle building competition with a fun, family-friendly atmosphere including snacks, prizes, and an optional puzzle swap table. Teams will receive the competition puzzle to take home and the top three teams will receive prizes for finishing the puzzle the quickest. Teams may range from 2-4 people. Friends and Family are welcome to attend and cheer their team on. The competition will take place on March 24, 2023, at Gamber Community Center from 5:30 - 9:00 pm.   

The City of Lee’s Summit is currently seeking residents to serve on two newly created commissions, the Cultural Commission and the Wellness Commission. The City’s commissions are supported by volunteers seeking to be involved in local government and meet on a regular basis. The Cultural Commission will advise the City Council on recommendations regarding art and cultural programming, community aesthetics and historic preservation issues relevant to citizens and visitors. Key functions include advising and supporting the implementation of initiatives, working with other entities to encourage the incorporation of artistic, cultural, historic, tourism and beautification efforts, increasing public awareness of cultural and historical resources, and serving as the City’s historic preservation commission. Lee’s Summit, MO – On Monday, 1/23/2023 at approximately 3:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 900 block of NE Bristol Drive on the report of a domestic disturbance inside a residence.  As officers arrived on scene, they quickly learned that a male suspect inside the house had fired multiple shots from a handgun during the disturbance.  Officers quickly evacuated the two remaining persons from the scene and set a perimeter around the incident.  Tactical officers and vehicles were called to the scene to negotiate with the man and resolve the situation.  Officers used drones and robots to enter the residence and search for the suspect after he refused to speak with negotiators on the phone.  Eventually, chemical irritants were deployed to the interior of the house and the robot was once again used to search interior of the home.  When the...

The City’s crews are preparing for snow on Sat., Jan. 21, and overnight into Sun., Jan. 22. Crews are scheduled to report at 7 p.m. on Saturday to treat streets as needed and will continue to work overnight into Sunday. Snow accumulations for the Lee’s Summit area may be around one half inch, and the main concerns will be snow overwhelming pavements Saturday night and a re-freeze Sunday morning when temperatures drop below freezing.
