Section of Chipman Road Set to Close to Through Traffic Beginning July 31

Closure to Remain in Place Through Completion of Project in Spring 2025

The Chipman Road Improvements project is underway and a section of Northwest Chipman Road between View High Drive and Northwest Bent Tree Drive is set to close to through traffic beginning Monday, July 31, and will remain closed until completion of the project in approximately spring 2025. The detour route is Northwest Pryor Road, Southwest Third Street, and View High Drive.

Moving closures for clearing operations will take place for approximately three weeks, and then an extended closure will begin in the middle of the project from east of Northwest Edgewood Drive to just west of the one lane railroad bridge at the Rock Island Trail. Local access will be maintained at all times. During this time the connection of Northwest Ashurst Drive to View High Drive will also be completed. All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

Carl L. Chinnery Named Citizen of the Year

The City of Lee’s Summit and Mayor Bill Baird join the City of Lake Lotawana and Mayor Tracy Rasmussen in the selection of Carl Chinnery as the 2023 Citizen of the Year. Chinnery is recognized for his service to the communities, civic activities and legal work for nonprofits. He will be honored at the Truman Heartland Community Foundation’s Annual Citizen’s Reception in early September and its “Toast to Our Towns” Gala on September 23. Chinnery established his private law practice in 1976, now known as Chinnery Evans & Nail, in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, concentrating on estate planning, probate, business law and real estate. Section of SE Melody Lane North of SE Third Terrace Closed for Repairs

Update 7.26.23: This section of roadway is now open. Continued repair work to the area is expected through Friday, July 28, 2023.

A section of SE Melody Lane north of SE 3rd Terrace is closed for repairs. The stormwater crew discovered a sinkhole due to separation of a concrete storm pipe on SE Melody Lane. An update will be provided when available.

Lee’s Summit Blood Drive to Address Emergency Shortage

In partnership with the Community Blood Center, the City of Lee's Summit will host a blood drive on Monday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gamber Community Center Ballroom located at 4 SE Independence Avenue. The Community Blood Center is offering Royals tickets to donors while supplies last. The Community Blood Center says now more than ever is the time to donate. Cold and flu season mixed with a decrease in first-time donors have all caused blood donations to decrease significantly over the past several weeks. Individuals who are healthy and well are encouraged to make an appointment. Donors can register at savealifenow.org/group using the group code KCJN. There are certain requirements to donate blood.
