Update 12/5/25: This section of Northeast Independence Avenue had reopened, but will close again on Tuesday and Wednesday (Dec. 9-10) of next week for pavement work.
A section of Northeast Independence Avenue between Northeast Orchard and Southeast Second streets is set to close on Monday, November 3, for approximately five weeks (extended from three weeks). The hard closure is between Southeast Second Street and 209 NE Independence Avenue. The detour route includes Northeast Orchard Street, Northeast Grand Avenue, and Southeast Second Street.

 

The City of Lee’s Summit will host its annual RecycleFEST from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1, at the City’s Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road. This free event gives residents the opportunity to recycle or responsibly dispose of a wide range of everyday items that often end up in landfills. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. generated approximately 292 million tons of municipal solid waste in 2018, and about 94 million tons (32.1 %) were recycled or composted. RecycleFEST encourages residents to help close the gap by recycling and reusing materials that conserve resources, reduce landfill waste and protect the environment. Sections of Southeast Douglas and Southeast First streets are set to close daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Monday, October 27, for utility work at the intersection. Work is permitted through November 7. The hard closures are on the south side of the intersection in the southbound lane of Southeast Douglas Street, and in the eastbound lane of Southeast First Street on either side of its intersection with Southeast Douglas Street.
