On April 4, Lee’s Summit voters will be presented with three no tax increase general obligation bond questions totaling $186 million to fund emergency preparedness, transportation and city facilities reinvestment. A fourth ballot question asks voters to consider a 3% sales tax on all retail sales of adult use, non-medical marijuana.  Question 1 would provide $74 million in funding for key public safety improvements that will provide public access and enhance safety and emergency services for the community. The 22 proposed projects include a Joint Operations Facility to house Fire Administration, the Emergency Operations Center, network infrastructure, co-located fire and police emergency communications and traffic monitoring/management support. The City’s crews prepared trucks and will be called in as needed tonight, Thurs., March 16, and overnight into Fri., March 17, due to the potential for a refreeze. Rain may change over to snow/sleet, and temperatures are expected to drop. High winds should dry out pavements; however, crews will be called in as needed to apply salt treatment in case any wet pavement refreezes. Drivers should be aware of the potential for refreeze especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation (LSPR) is pleased to announce that Pleasant Lea Park has reopened following a makeover.

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will host a blood drive on Monday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City’s Maintenance Facility located at 1971 SE Hamblen Road. The Community Blood Center has declared its first blood emergency of 2023 as blood donations dip even lower and patient needs remain high. In January, Community Blood Center received 2,000 fewer blood donations than in January 2022 and blood donations are below hospital and patient need The Community Blood Center says now more than ever is the time to donate. Cold and flu season mixed with a decrease in first-time donors have all caused blood donations to decrease significantly over the past several weeks.
