A section of Southeast Johnson Street between Southeast Second and Southeast Third streets is set to close on Monday, July 8, for approximately two months. The closure is necessary for continued infrastructure work associated with the Downtown Market Plaza project. The detour route includes Southeast Grand Avenue, Southeast Third Street, Southeast Douglas Street, and Southeast Second Street.

All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

 

The City of Lee’s Summit and Mayor Bill Baird are proud to name Dave Eames as the 2024 Citizen of the Year. Eames was chosen for his decades of service to Lee’s Summit through business and volunteerism and the positivity he brings to the Lee’s Summit community. In September he will be honored at the Truman Heartland Community Foundation’s Annual Citizens Reception and its Toast to Our Towns Gala.

If your Independence Day celebration plans include fireworks, remember to use them responsibly and follow local regulations and safety guidelines. For 2023, The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) received reports of eight deaths and an estimated 9,700 injuries involving fireworks. Out of the eight deaths, five were from firework misuse, two were from a device malfunction, and one involved unknown circumstances. In addition to injuries, there is an increased fire risk. Sparks from fireworks can easily ignite grass and natural cover fires and pose a risk to structures. We urge everyone to consider local conditions and use extreme caution if using consumer fireworks.  In the City of Lee's Summit, residents with a 2024 Fireworks Permit may discharge approved fireworks on July 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. On June 24, a section of Arboridge Drive will close between Missouri 150 Highway and Southwest Arborwalk Boulevard for the construction of a southbound turn lane. This is a full closure lasting until July 15. Detour routes have been provided. All schedules are weather permitting and subject to change.

Captain Gene Martin's funeral service on June 20, 2024, will be followed by a procession to the cemetery between 12 PM and 1:30 PM. Below is a map link and directions to the cemetery that will pass by Lee's Summit Fire Station No.5 and Fire Headquarters. Anyone wishing to pay respects along the road is encouraged to do so along SE Douglas Street, but please do not park on the procession route. The procession route is as follows: From Holy Spirit Catholic Church east to the M-291 Highway, north to SW Blue Parkway, east on SW Blue Parkway to SE Douglas Street, north on SE Douglas Street to SE 2nd Street, east on SE 2nd Street to M-291 Highway, south on M-291 Highway to US 50 Highway, east on US 50 Highway to Blackwell Parkway, south on Blackwell Parkway to SE Oldham Parkway, east on Oldham Parkway to Floral Hills East Gardens...
