The City’s crews pre-treated streets, and will continue treating primary and secondary streets tonight, Saturday, Jan. 4, and overnight into Sunday, Jan. 5. Even streets that have been treated are slick. Drivers are urged to stay home if possible; if travel is necessary, use caution and give crews plenty of room to work. Snow is expected to start early Sunday morning, and crews will plow and treat streets as necessary.

The City will continue to monitor the weather forecast and update its response accordingly.

The City’s crews are preparing for a major winter storm which is expected to start on Saturday, Jan. 4, and will continue overnight into Sunday, Jan. 5. Ice, sleet, heavy snow, high winds, and low temperatures are all expected with this storm.

Crews pre-treated secondary and residential streets with salt today, Friday, Jan. 3, and will report at noon on Saturday, Jan. 4, to pre-treat primary streets. Ice and sleet are expected to start on Saturday afternoon/evening, and drivers should use caution at onset especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses.

The Southeast Green Street entrance into the Lee’s Summit City Hall parking lot and garage is now open.

Work on the Green Street project continues, and Southeast Third Street between Southeast Douglas Street and Southeast Grand Avenue remains closed to thru traffic.

Day begins her position on Jan. 6 where she will develop and manage the City’s newly created destination marketing/management organization. With over 22 years of experience in the tourism industry, Day brings expertise in strategic planning, sales and marketing, and destination development. Day has spent the last six years as director of sales for Worlds of Fun and executive director of the Missouri Travel Alliance. During her career Day has worked in roles to increase tourism activities for municipalities, including sales manager for the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau, director of tourism for the City of Independence and vice president of sales and services for Visit KC.
