A section of Northwest Commerce Drive between Northwest Main Street and Northeast Tudor Road is set to close on Monday, February 10. Work is permitted through early May. The detour route includes Northwest Main Street, Northeast Douglas Street, and Northeast Tudor Road. The closure is necessary for development-related construction.

Following a distinguished career of more than 40 years of public service, Director of Water Utilities Mark Schaufler has announced his retirement effective Feb. 3. Schaufler has led Lee’s Summit Water Utilities for the past 21 years, shaping it into a nationally accredited and award-winning agency committed to exceptional customer service and operational excellence.

The City of Lee's Summit's Human Relations Commission is promoting kindness in the community during Take Time To Be Kind Week, Feb. 10-15. Community members are encouraged to perform random and purposeful acts of kindness to promote positivity. These acts can be as simple as writing a letter of appreciation, giving a small care package to a co-worker, volunteering at a local organization or practicing self-care through journaling. The public is asked to share their acts of kindness on social media using #LSKindness. The Human Relations Commission will host activities, including a Gratitude Station and a Kindness Passport. Community members are invited to visit the Gratitude Station in the lobby of City Hall during business hours to create cards and signs with thoughtful messages that they can share to spread kindness and appreciation throughout the community. A City crew is scheduled to report at midnight to treat streets with salt before potential freezing rain tomorrow morning, Wednesday, February 5. Streets may become slick due to pavement temperatures being below freezing. Drivers should use caution during the morning commute, especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Pavement temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by mid-morning Wednesday.

 

The intersection of Southwest Third and Jefferson streets is set to close on Monday, February 24, and will remain closed until approximately early April. The closure is necessary for water main work and intersection improvements. Detour routes include Southwest Blue Parkway, Southwest Second Street, Southwest Market Street, and Southwest Fourth Street. Local access only is available west and east of the closure on Southwest Third Street, and to the north and south of the closure on Southwest Jefferson Street.
