The City of Lee’s Summit is excited to join communities statewide in celebrating Missouri Good Neighbor Week, Sept. 28-Oct. 4. The annual event honors the spirit of community and encourages residents to strengthen relationships with neighbors.
In 1978, President Jimmy Carter established Sept. 28 as National Good Neighbor Day by presidential proclamation. In 2022, Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed legislation establishing Sept. 28 as Missouri Good Neighbor Day and the six subsequent days as Missouri Good Neighbor Week.
During Good Neighbor Week, citizens can get involved through various events and activities to foster community and goodwill. These may include:
Neighborhood clean-up days
Block parties
Perform acts of kindness
Recognize good neighbors

A section of Southeast Cobey Creek Drive between Southeast Gillette Street and Southeast David Road is set to close on Wednesday, Oct. 1, and will remain closed for approximately a week and a half. The closure is necessary for stormwater work. The detour route includes Southeast Gillette Street, Southeast Corbin Drive, and Southeast David Road.
