The City of Lee’s Summit is looking for volunteers to participate in a Stream Team Cleanup on October 8. Volunteers will help remove litter and debris from a Prairie Lee tributary from 10 a.m. - noon at Upper Banner Park, 520 NE Noeleen Lane.
“Protecting our natural resources is a priority and this is a small way to invest in the community,” Environmentalist Specialist Kara Taylor said. “Stream Team cleanup events are an opportunity to not only restore the beauty of our streams but improve water quality, prevent flash floods and ultimately influence the overall health of our bodies of water downstream.”

Update: This section of NW O'Brien Road will remain closed until Saturday, Oct. 22, weather permitting.
A section of NW O’Brien Road from NW Village Drive to NW Transition is set to close on Monday, Sept. 26, and will remain closed until Oct. 17, weather permitting. This closure is pending the re-opening of NW Chipman Road under the U.S. Route 50 bridges. The work is necessary to perform water main replacement work as part of the FY22 Water Main Rehabilitation project.
The detour route is NW Ward Road, NW Chipman Road, and NW Murray Road.

Section of NW O'Brien Road Set for Daily Closures Beginning Sept. 13
Update: This closure is postponed until Chipman Road is opened at U.S. Route 50. Until Chipman Road is open in that location, a work zone is set to be in place on NW O’Brien Road west of NW Ward Road that allows two-way traffic and includes a lane shift. The section of NW O’Brien Road west of NW Ward Road is set to close daily once Chipman Road is open at U.S. Route 50. More details to follow.

A section of SE Hamblen Road north of SE Bailey Road is set to close at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, and will remain closed until 5:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, weather permitting. This closure is necessary for the removal and replacement of stormwater pipes that cross SE Hamblen Road. The detour route is SE Bailey Road, SE Century Drive, and SE Oldham Parkway.
This work is part of the Browning Street Extension Project, which will extend the current Browning Street to connect with SE Hamblen Road. The project will include sidewalks, curb and gutter and turn lanes. The project was identified in the Thoroughfare Master Plan, and recommended by the City’s License Tax Committee. Funding is provided through the License (Excise) Tax.

Lee’s Summit Mayor Bill Baird will deliver the State of the City address on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at The Aspen Room at the Stanley in downtown Lee’s Summit, 308 SE Douglas St. The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce is hosting the luncheon.
