The City of Lee’s Summit will host an in-person public hearing to discuss the design for the Ward and Persels Intersection Improvements project from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at Pleasant Lea Middle School, located at 630 SW Persels Road in Lee’s Summit, Mo. 64081. The public will have an opportunity to view project plans and exhibits and provide feedback. There will be no formal presentation and the hearing will be open house style; the public can come and go as schedules allow. Project plans and exhibits prepared by the City’s design consultant Garver USA will be available to view, and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the project and offer comments.

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will host a blood drive on Monday, Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City’s Maintenance Facility located at 1971 SE Hamblen Road. The Community Blood Center says now more than ever is the time to donate. According to the American Red Cross, national blood supply has fallen about 25% since early August. Individuals who are healthy and well are encouraged to make an appointment. Donors can register at savealifenow.org/group using the group code KCJN. There are certain requirements to donate blood. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good overall health. Donors can be 16 years old with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. Rick Viar has been selected by Mayor Bill Baird to receive the 2023 West Gate Division of the Missouri Municipal League's Annual Civic Leadership Award. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions of business and civic leaders in developing stronger cities. Viar will be honored at a banquet on Oct. 26 at Belvoir Winery in Liberty. Viar is a dedicated community public servant who has served on numerous boards and committees over the years, including the United Way of Greater Kansas City, Lee's Summit Educational Foundation Advisory Finance Committee, Lee's Summit Civic Roundtable and Lee's Summit Industrial Development Authority. He has contributed his leadership abilities to the boards of Lee's Summit Economic Development Council, Lee's Summit Educational Foundation, Lee's Summit Chamber of Commerce, John Knox Village, Lee's Summit Symphony...

Portions of the NW Chipman and NW Pryor roads intersection are set to close nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 2, and will take place for approximately two to three weeks, weather permitting. Traffic should follow the posted detour which includes NW Pryor Road, NW Lowenstein Drive, NW Black Twig Lane, and NW Chipman Road. During the day, the entire intersection will be open to traffic and all excavations will be plated and wedged with asphalt.

 

A section of SW Murray Road from SW 3rd Street to SW Longview Road is set to close to through traffic on Tuesday, Oct. 3, and will remain closed for approximately thirty days, weather permitting. There will be a hard closure of SW Murray Road from SW 3rd Street to SW 5th Street. The detour route for this closure is SW Pryor Road, SW Longview Road and SW Ward Road.
