Lee’s Summit Public Works is excited to announce it has received reaccreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). This achievement recognizes the department’s commitment to excellence in public works management and operations. APWA accreditation is a rigorous process that evaluates public works agencies against industry best practices. By earning this accreditation, City of Lee’s Summit Public Works demonstrates its dedication to providing high-quality services to the community. This is the department’s sixth accreditation since 2004, solidifying its position as a leader in public works management. Open to all governmental agencies with responsibilities for public works functions, initial accreditation from APWA is for a four-year period. A section of Southwest Georgetown Drive between Southwest Ward Road and Southwest Raintree Drive is set to close to thru traffic on Thursday, Nov. 7, and will remain closed for approximately one week. The work is necessary for curb and gutter replacement near the intersection of Southwest Georgetown Drive and Southwest Raintree Drive. The detour route includes Southwest Drake Drive, Southwest Ward Road, and Southwest County Line Road.

 

 

The City of Lee’s Summit is holding a snow dry run from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 6, to allow crews to prepare for the upcoming 2024-2025 winter weather season. The annual snow dry run was scheduled in advance and is not in response to any forecast.

The purpose of the snow dry run is to ensure all equipment and software are working properly and that drivers are familiar with snow routes, which is critical to the City’s snow and ice control operations. City crews will test equipment and software, and drive snow routes with plows and salt spreaders installed on trucks. The City of Lee's Summit will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Nov. 8 at 10:30 a.m. to mark the start of a $30.5 million project to construct the Joint Operations Facility. The ceremony is open to the public and will take place on land west of Lee’s Summit Police Headquarters at 2 NE Tudor Road. The public is invited to the groundbreaking ceremony for the Joint Operations Facility!

This facility is made possible through the 2023 No Tax Increase Bond in partnership with the state of Missouri. It will serve as the future home of Fire Administration and Training, as well as the City's Emergency Operations and Communications Centers.
