City Crews Plowing and Treating Streets Today, Jan. 1

The City’s crews treated all streets with salt overnight and into today, Jan. 1, and have started plowing and treating primary streets. Trucks have also started making one pass on residential streets while the snow continues to fall. Depending on the total snow accumulation, it can take 24-48 hours after accumulating snow ends for crews to plow and treat all streets. Due to the ice/sleet and cold temperatures, there may still be ice and snow packed to pavements even after plowing and treating is completed.

Residents can help the snow control process by removing cars, trash cans, and basketball goals from streets.

As a reminder, there are three street classifications: primary streets, which are major four-lane or high volume two-lane streets; secondary streets, which are minor thoroughfares; and residential streets, which are local streets including dead-end streets and cul-de-sacs. Major highways, interchanges, and most outer roads are maintained by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).

The City will continue to monitor the weather forecast and update its response accordingly.
