City’s Crews Prepared for Winter Weather Overnight Into Friday, Jan. 15

The City’s crews are scheduled to begin pre-treatment of streets at 11 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Jan. 14, ahead of a winter storm expected to arrive in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 15. The Kansas City metro area is on the southern edge of a larger storm system, and snowfall totals are expected to be light; however, high winds and gusts could potentially cause issues with blowing and drifting snow and downed limbs and trees.

Friday morning’s commute could be slick, and residents should use caution while driving especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. Pavement temperatures are expected to rise above freezing after noon on Friday, but there is a chance for a refreeze Friday night. Crews are currently scheduled to work around the clock into the weekend.

The City will continue to monitor the weather forecast and update its response accordingly.
