Lee’s Summit Airport Hosts Virtual Open House to Plan for the Future

The City of Lee’s Summit is inviting the public to participate in a 3D virtual open house, where they can view progress and provide input on the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport’s updated Master Plan and Business Plan. These plans will define the airport’s goals and objectives and establish a strategy to guide airport development for the next 20 years. The virtual open house can be accessed 24/7 at cityofLS.net/openhouse and will remain open indefinitely.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the virtual open house format was identified as a safe alternative for the public to engage in the planning process while maintaining the feel of a traditional open house. The virtual open house consists of eight stations, which provide the history of the airport, demand projections, facility requirements and progress on the Master Plan and Business Plan. Each station features exhibits along with audio recordings offering an executive summary of the topic. A survey is conducted at the end of the virtual open house to capture public feedback. This immersive experience works best when using a desktop device.

Open house exhibits, audio recordings and the survey are available on the City’s website without the 3D virtual experience as another option for the public to participate. The public can view progress on both plans and submit comments online throughout the entire planning process at LSairport.net. The recommended Master Plan and Business Plan are scheduled to be presented to City Council in January.

The City has contracted with the engineering firm Crawford, Murphy and Tilly to develop the Master Plan and Business Plan. Grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration and Missouri Department of Transportation cover 90 percent of the cost to prepare the updated Master Plan and Business Plan. The City has funded the 10 percent match required for both grants.

For more information about the Airport Master Plan and Business Plan, email publicworks@cityofLS.net or call 969-1800.
