Water Utilities Raises Sewer Tap Fees with New Methodology

Effective July 1 the sewer connection fee for new development will be calculated based on the size of the meter, not the number of drains. This is the first change to Lee's Summit's sewer connection fee since 1988 and will help fund the future growth of the sanitary system.

Prior to July 2022, the sewer connection fee was $30 per drain. In addition, the Maybrook and the Middle Big Creek watersheds included impact fees for those areas. A new fee methodology has been developed to create a city-wide approach to funding the development of the sanitary sewer system. This approach is also more aligned with the water tap fees that have been under this similar methodology since 1997.

  • Fees are proportional to the size of the meter and not the number of drains.
  • All increases were recommended for approval by the Water Utilities Advisory Board, which provides customer input on rates fees, and other charges associated with the utility.
  • New Fees were approved following a public hearing by the City Council.
  • Funds the future growth of the sanitary sewer system.
