City of Lee’s Summit Launches New Alert System for Residents

The City of Lee’s Summit is excited to launch LS Aware, a free alert system designed to keep residents and businesses informed of emergencies and certain non-emergency events. The City can quickly send messages via phones, text, email and more, depending on the preferences set up by the user. The public is encouraged to sign up at LSaware.net LS Aware will be used to communicate emergency notifications that involve immediate or pending threats to public safety or property such as severe weather, fires and floods. Emergency notifications can be sent citywide if necessary. Community notifications alert the public about city services that may impact their day-to-day activity but do not impact health or safety. Lee’s Summit Snowplow Naming Contest Accepting Submissions

The City of Lee’s Summit Public Works Department is inviting the community to participate in its first Snowplow Naming Contest. Residents can submit their unique and creative names for the City’s snowplows online at cityofLS.net/snowplow through Nov. 7. Winning entries will be announced Nov. 20 on the City’s social media and website. The new names will be placed on the City’s snow removal equipment that is in service during the upcoming 2023-2024 winter season. The contest raises awareness of the snowplows and the importance of the work done by City crews to keep roadways safe. By naming the snowplows residents are more likely to recognize them on the roadways and know to steer clear. Lee’s Summit Downtown Market Plaza Groundbreaking Ceremony

The project team led by the City of Lee’s Summit and LANE4 Property Group is pleased to announce a ceremony for the groundbreaking of the Downtown Market Plaza on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony will mark the commencement of construction for the highly anticipated, mixed-use project located in Downtown Lee’s Summit across from City Hall at Third and Green streets. The first phase of the project is expected to be complete in spring 2025 and includes a four-season Farmer’s Market and Event Space, a covered Outdoor Performance Area, and a Streetscaped Pavilion. Volunteers Needed to Sweep the Summit on October 14

Residents, businesses, community groups and students are encouraged to join the City of Lee’s Summit on Oct. 14 for Sweep the Summit, a citywide event to address ongoing litter issues, encourage recycling and keep the City clean. Two environmental cleanups, Street Clean and Stream Team, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Street Clean volunteers will tackle trash and illegal dumping along certain city-owned streets. Participants are asked to meet at the City’s Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road, to receive street assignments, trash bags and safety vests. The Stream Team will address stream-side habitats within the City’s parks. During this event, cleanup efforts will concentrate on East Fork Little Blue Creek in Langsford Park.
