Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the official dates and details for next year’s beloved Father-Daughter Dances. A long-standing community tradition, the event provides a magical evening for fathers and daughters to celebrate their bond through music, dining, and unforgettable moments.

This year’s theme, “Wicked,” will transform the venue into an enchanting, Oz-inspired atmosphere, complete with themed décor, photo opportunities, and special touches that bring the story’s magic to life.

 

The City of Lee's Summit will celebrate the opening of Southwest Third Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. The event will be held near the intersection of Southwest Third and Southwest Jefferson streets.

The Southwest Third Street Improvements Project enhances one of the City’s most vital corridors connecting to downtown Lee’s Summit. The project improves safety and accessibility while supporting economic growth and redevelopment opportunities along the street.

The City of Lee’s Summit will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the completion of Hangar 2, a state-of-the-art facility at the Kansas City – Lee’s Summit Regional Airport (LXT). The event will take place at 2740 NE Hagan Road. Hangar 2 represents a major investment in the City’s growing regional airport and supports Lee’s Summit’s commitment to expanding aviation opportunities, workforce development and economic growth. The City of Lee’s Summit will host its annual RecycleFEST from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1, at the City’s Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road. This free event gives residents the opportunity to recycle or responsibly dispose of a wide range of everyday items that often end up in landfills. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. generated approximately 292 million tons of municipal solid waste in 2018, and about 94 million tons (32.1 %) were recycled or composted. RecycleFEST encourages residents to help close the gap by recycling and reusing materials that conserve resources, reduce landfill waste and protect the environment. The City of Lee’s Summit will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. at the railroad bridge on Northwest Colbern Road to mark the official opening of Colbern Road, the largest capital infrastructure project to date in the City’s history. The $30 million Colbern Road Improvements Project, which began in September 2023, was funded by the 2017 Capital Improvement Sales Tax, water and sewer funds, and grants through the federal Surface Transportation Program and the Governor’s Transportation Cost-Share Program. The project addresses decades of traffic congestion, safety concerns and infrastructure needs along Colbern Road between Northeast Douglas Street and Northwest Blue Parkway.
