On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 4:56 p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2600 Block of NW Bent Tree Circle. The occupant called 911 and reported a fire in the kitchen. When the fire department arrived, light smoke was visible from a two-story, single-family residence. The occupant was safe outside. Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire involving the kitchen. The City of Lee’s Summit is hosting its free RecycleFEST on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at the City’s Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road. RecycleFEST offers Lee’s Summit residents an opportunity to dispose of a variety of items in an environmentally friendly manner for free. According to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), 66% of Americans will not recycle a product if it’s not easy or inconvenient to do so. Recycling and composting help save natural resources and creates cleaner land, air, water and better overall health for all. RecycleFEST collects materials that can be recycled and refurbished, reducing harm to the environment and saving landfill space. LEE'S SUMMIT, MO— On Wednesday, September 28 at 11:00 AM., the City of Lee's Summit will test ALL Outdoor Warning Sirens and the Voice Message System to evaluate recent upgrades, weather permitting.

The City will test the system again next week on the regularly scheduled first Wednesday of the month at 11:00 AM, weather permitting.

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will host a blood drive on Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gamber Community Center, 4 SE Independence Ave. The Community Blood Center needs donations, especially type O, Rh negative and platelet donors. The Community Blood Center says now more than ever is the time to donate. The COVID-19 outbreak is still impacting the blood supply needed to support the health agencies within our communities. LEE’S SUMMIT, MO--On Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 11:25p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 400 Block of SE Youngston Lane. The occupant called 911 and reported the back of the house was on fire, and the occupants were evacuating. When the fire department arrived, smoke and fire was visible from the back of a two-story, single-family residence. All of the occupants were safe outside. The fire was located on the deck and spread up the side into the eave and attic of the one-story addition. Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire on the deck and siding as other crews entered the building and pulled down the ceiling to extinguish the fire in the attic.
