The Legacy Park Amphitheater (LPA) summer season has been announced by Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation (LSPR). There will be six acts on the bill, each paying homage to a genre or legendary performers.  The Blues Festival will kick off the 2023 season on June 10. Calendar of Events for Outdoor Concerts June 10 at 7 p.m., Blues Fest will showcase the musical talents of Jason Vivone, Nick Schnebelen, and Orphan Jon and the Abandoned, thanks to funding from the Missouri Arts Council. There will not be a cover charge for this night of heartfelt music. The 21^st Annual Tom Logan Memorial bike ride, Tour de Lakes, will take place on Saturday, Jun. 24, 2023. The ride starts at the Longview Community Center (3801 SW Longview Park Dr., Lee's Summit, MO 64081) at 7 a.m., rain or shine.

Riders may choose from four different routes. A 10-mile ride around Longview Lake. 32 and 56-mile rides around Longview, Raintree, and Lakewood Lakes. Finally, avid riders can tackle the 64-mile ride touring all five lakes: Longview, Raintree, Lakewood, Blue Springs, and Lake Jacomo.

 

 

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Engineer Brad Faulkner. Brad collapsed at his son’s sporting event on Thursday, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Brad was a 19-year veteran assigned to A-Shift at Fire Station No. 3. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brad’s family, friends, and his fire department family.

Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation would like to announce the purchase of four 3-wheel bikes through a grant funded by Eitas- developmental disabilities services of Jackson County. This purchase allows adults with disabilities, balance impairments, and the senior population to utilize the free bikes reservation program at Lovell and Longview Community Centers. This new amenity will improve the quality of life for many patrons with balance and mobility issues. Jodi Jordan, Superintendent of Recreation Services and Inclusion Coordinator for LSPR, stated, "The request for 3-wheel bikes has been made by patrons in the community, including seniors losing balance and mobility, adults with autism, and clients of the American Stroke Foundation who offer weekly programs at the Longview Community Center. On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 4:42 pm, the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 400 Block of SE Weiss Circle. The occupant called 911 and reported a fire in the upstairs bedroom. The occupant was evacuating the house.  When the fire department arrived, light smoke was coming from the two-story, single-family residence. The occupant and pet were safe outside. Firefighters entered the house to heavy smoke conditions and quickly extinguished a room and contents fire in the upstairs bedroom. A check of the area confirmed no fire had spread beyond the room. A search of the house confirmed it was empty. The incident was under control by 5:02 pm.  The fire heavily damaged the bedroom, with extensive heat and smoke damage to the second floor and the remainder of the house.
