Fireworks tents are opening in the area, and people are planning Independence Day celebrations. If your plans include fireworks, remember to use them responsibly and follow local regulations and safety guidelines. As drought conditions worsen in Missouri, put fireworks safety first as we prepare for Independence Day celebrations. Sparks from fireworks can easily ignite grass and natural cover fires and pose a risk to structures. We urge everyone to consider local conditions and use extreme caution if using consumer fireworks.  In the City of Lee's Summit, residents with a 2023 Fireworks Permit may discharge approved fireworks on July 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and July 4 from 10 a.m. to midnight. On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 8:57 a.m., Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to Summit Waves, 120 SW Blue Parkway, for a reported chemical spill. Pool staff reported a leak and chemical smell from the wave pool building.  Crews arrived and evacuated the immediate area. Lee's Summit Fire Department, hazardous materials personnel assessed the area and found that approximately ten to fifteen gallons of muriatic acid from the pool's sanitizing system had spilled from a failed distribution line. Crews turned off the system and contained the spill. Fire department medical personnel assessed the employees that found the spill with no care needed.  Summit Waves will remain closed until a hazmat contractor finishes spill removal and repairs are made to the wave pool. The Legacy Park Amphitheater (LPA) summer season has been announced by Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation (LSPR). There will be six acts on the bill, each paying homage to a genre or legendary performers.  The Blues Festival will kick off the 2023 season on June 10. Calendar of Events for Outdoor Concerts June 10 at 7 p.m., Blues Fest will showcase the musical talents of Jason Vivone, Nick Schnebelen, and Orphan Jon and the Abandoned, thanks to funding from the Missouri Arts Council. There will not be a cover charge for this night of heartfelt music. The 21^st Annual Tom Logan Memorial bike ride, Tour de Lakes, will take place on Saturday, Jun. 24, 2023. The ride starts at the Longview Community Center (3801 SW Longview Park Dr., Lee's Summit, MO 64081) at 7 a.m., rain or shine.

Riders may choose from four different routes. A 10-mile ride around Longview Lake. 32 and 56-mile rides around Longview, Raintree, and Lakewood Lakes. Finally, avid riders can tackle the 64-mile ride touring all five lakes: Longview, Raintree, Lakewood, Blue Springs, and Lake Jacomo.

 

 

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Engineer Brad Faulkner. Brad collapsed at his son’s sporting event on Thursday, and efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Brad was a 19-year veteran assigned to A-Shift at Fire Station No. 3. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brad’s family, friends, and his fire department family.
