Lee’s Summit's Downtown Market Plaza Public Meetings Set for Oct. 25

Lee’s Summit's Downtown Market Plaza Public Meetings Set for Oct. 25

The City of Lee’s Summit and Biederman Redevelopment Ventures will hold three public meetings on Oct. 25 at The Stanley Event Space, 308 Southeast Douglas Street, to receive feedback on the types of programming and activities the community envisions as part of the Downtown Market Plaza redevelopment project. The meetings will be one hour in length and will begin at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The City has a development structure agreement with LANE4 Development Group as the master developer of the project and Biederman Redevelopment Ventures as the public space manager. Biederman Redevelopment Ventures is developing programming and management plans for the public area components of the Downtown Market Plaza in close coordination with the City, Downtown Community Improvement District and Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street. Concerts, live theater, painting classes, family/children’s programs are among the possible activities that may be offered at the Downtown Market Plaza.

“Downtown Lee’s Summit, with its excellent retail mix and attractive streetscape, is well-positioned to be a leader in sophisticated downtown programming. It will be important to hear the opinions of citizens and business owners about public components that will draw more people to the downtown core. We will learn a great deal from the attendees at next week’s meetings,” said Dan Biederman, president of Biederman Redevelopment Ventures.

The conceptual plan for the mixed-use Downtown Market Plaza, located near Southeast Green Street and Southeast Third Street, consists of a permanent farmers market, conservatory, boutique hotel, mixed-use commercial building, outdoor performance area, apartment complex and courtyard.

In April 2013, Lee’s Summit voters approved a $2,898,000 general obligation bond for constructing and rehabilitating public facilities for cultural arts, including improvements to the Legacy Park Amphitheater, rehabilitating the former city hall building, and the creation of a downtown performance and festival space.

Brine is a saltwater solution which helps to prevent ice and other precipitation from bonding to pavement. Roadways and other surfaces treated with brine often have a striped appearance.
