The City of Lee’s Summit is looking for volunteers to participate in a Stream Team Cleanup on October 8. Volunteers will help remove litter and debris from a Prairie Lee tributary from 10 a.m. - noon at Upper Banner Park, 520 NE Noeleen Lane.
“Protecting our natural resources is a priority and this is a small way to invest in the community,” Environmentalist Specialist Kara Taylor said. “Stream Team cleanup events are an opportunity to not only restore the beauty of our streams but improve water quality, prevent flash floods and ultimately influence the overall health of our bodies of water downstream.”

On Sunday, September 18, 2022, at 10:26 a.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1900 Block of NE Knollbrook Street. A passerby reported the building was on fire around the air conditioner.
When the fire department arrived, smoke and fire was coming from the side of a two-story, four-unit townhome. Several occupants had evacuated the building.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire on the exterior of the building that had spread to the roof's eave and also involved the natural gas meter. Firefighters shut off the gas flowing from the damaged meter. Other crews made access to the inside of the building to check for fire spread and complete a search of the building. Lee’s Summit Water Utilities released the results of the 2022 Customer Survey which shows high overall satisfaction with the quality of water and sewer services. A total of 629 residents completed the survey which was administered by ETC Institute in the spring of 2022.
The Customer Survey was developed to objectively assess customer satisfaction with the delivery of water and sewer services and provide customers with an opportunity to provide open-ended feedback.
The results found that a majority continue to be happy with the reliability of water service (94%), the reliability of sanitary sewer service (90%), clarity of drinking water (88%), smell of drinking water (87%) and variety of bill payment options available (86%). Lee’s Summit Mayor Bill Baird will deliver the State of the City address on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at The Aspen Room at the Stanley in downtown Lee’s Summit, 308 SE Douglas St. The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce is hosting the luncheon.
