The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will host a blood drive on Monday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City’s Maintenance Facility located at 1971 SE Hamblen Road. The Community Blood Center has declared its first blood emergency of 2023 as blood donations dip even lower and patient needs remain high. In January, Community Blood Center received 2,000 fewer blood donations than in January 2022 and blood donations are below hospital and patient need The Community Blood Center says now more than ever is the time to donate. Cold and flu season mixed with a decrease in first-time donors have all caused blood donations to decrease significantly over the past several weeks. Lee's Summit Parks Administrator Joe Snook was honored with the Missouri Park and Recreation Association’s highest honor, Fellow Award, at their annual conference on February 16 in Lake Ozark, MO.

On February 23, 2023, at 10:47 pm, the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in a duplex at NW Maple and NW Main Street. The reporting party was a duplex resident who discovered a fire in the neighboring unit.   When the fire department arrived, the fire was visible from the front, side, and roof of one side of the single-story duplex. The reporting occupant was outside. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside, then went inside to complete extinguishment and search the building. The fire was under control by 11:20 pm. A check of the neighboring unit found light smoke, but no fire spread past the fire barrier separating the duplex. The resident of the fire unit was found in a nearby parking lot and taken by ambulance to a Metro area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The fire caused heavy damage to one...

The City of Lee’s Summit is currently seeking residents to serve on two newly created commissions, the Cultural Commission and the Wellness Commission. The City’s commissions are supported by volunteers seeking to be involved in local government and meet on a regular basis. The Cultural Commission will advise the City Council on recommendations regarding art and cultural programming, community aesthetics and historic preservation issues relevant to citizens and visitors. Key functions include advising and supporting the implementation of initiatives, working with other entities to encourage the incorporation of artistic, cultural, historic, tourism and beautification efforts, increasing public awareness of cultural and historical resources, and serving as the City’s historic preservation commission.
