Main Street Best in Show Legacy Award

Main Street Best in Show Legacy Award

The City of Lee's Summit is proud to announce that Green Street has been honored with the inaugural Main Street Best in Show Legacy Award by Missouri Main Street Connection. Presented during the Evening of Excellence on July 31, 2026 at Missouri's Premier Downtown Revitalization Conference, the award recognizes Green Street's lasting impact on downtown Lee's Summit as a destination for community gatherings, the Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street Farmers Market, events, and visitors.

The Main Street Best in Show Legacy Award was introduced this year to recognize transformational projects that leave a lasting legacy on their communities through downtown revitalization, placemaking, and sustained economic impact. As the first recipient of the award, Green Street joins a distinguished group of projects that exemplify the vision and collaboration at the heart of Missouri's Main Street communities.

More than three decades in the making, Green Street fulfills a vision first outlined in the community's 1993 Vision of the Heart plan. Through the dedication of Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street, the City of Lee's Summit, community partners, and residents, the project transformed a long-standing vision into a vibrant public space that strengthens downtown, supports local businesses, and enhances quality of life.

Since opening in 2025, Green Street has welcomed thousands of visitors, increased foot traffic to downtown businesses, and become a signature destination for residents and visitors alike. During its opening weekend alone, Green Street attracted more than 12,500 visitors over four days, while overall downtown visitation doubled compared with a typical August Saturday. Today, Green Street continues to drive economic activity, create opportunities for community connection, and reinforce Downtown Lee's Summit as a vibrant destination for the region.
