The City of Lee’s Summit is proudly hosting one of two KC2026 FIFA World Cup 26™ Countdown Clocks in the center of Green Street, the City’s new outdoor destination located in the heart of downtown Lee’s Summit. The custom-designed, illuminated clock features Kansas City’s unique Host City branding and joins an identical clock in Overland Park, Kansas, counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until midnight, June 11, 2026, the day the FIFA World Cup 26™ kicks off in Mexico City. The clock will be on display at Green Street through mid-November.

The sweltering heat and muggy weather did not stop thousands of people from attending Green Street’s grand opening last weekend in downtown Lee’s Summit.

The weekend was packed with activities and offered a prelude to the type of events the new public space will offer regularly. The big debut launched with a block party and ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday. Saturday featured a farmers market, live music, street performers and kids’ activities. Sunday was dedicated to wellness: yoga, mini-golf and other games.

Green Street, a new community space in Downtown Lee’ Summit, is set to open in just a few days.

“It’s been a part of my entire time. It’s a big project,” Lee’s Summit Mayor Bill Baird shared with FOX4. “It’s a dream that’s been the citizen’s dream for 30-40 years. When I came into office, there had been a bond that had been passed, and I was like we gotta make this happen. That was five years ago. We gotta make this happen.”

A countdown on the webpage for Green Street ticks down the minutes until its opening date. Once it hits zero on Friday, Aug. 15, the public will finally get to explore the farmers market area and gathering space that’s been in the works for well over a decade.

The nearly 3-acre spot around Southeast Third and Southeast Green streets features a lawn with an outdoor canopy, public art installations and — perhaps most notably — a new, indoor-outdoor farmers market pavilion.

The mountains of dirt are subsiding. The roof and playground are coming into view. And you can almost taste those late-summer tomatoes and fresh sweet corn from the farmers market.

In what will surely launch Downtown Lee’s Summit into another stratosphere of excellence, city officials have announced the opening of the much-anticipated Green Street market and outdoor performance space. That announcement signals the long-awaited light at the end of the Green Street tunnel, 12 years in the making that included countless man-hours in designs, planning and execution.

Green Street’s grand opening is set for Aug. 15-17.
