UPDATE: Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Ground Breaking on Indoor Sports Complex Postponed

UPDATE: The Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation groundbreaking ceremony for the Indoor Sports Complex has been postponed. A new date has not yet been announced.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation (LSPR) will officially break ground on its new multi-court sports fieldhouse on Thursday, August 6, at 4:00 p.m. (This date has been postponed). Community members, elected officials, project partners, and media are invited to attend the ceremony celebrating the start of the largest capital project in LSPR's history.

The more than 98,000-square-foot fieldhouse will be built on an 8.5-acre site near U.S. Highway 50 and Missouri Route 291.

The facility will feature:

  • Ten regulation basketball courts
  • Fourteen regulation volleyball courts
  • 20 pickleball courts
  • Grab-and-go concessions
  • Meeting and event space for up to 250 people
  • Office space for fieldhouse operations and Parks and Recreation staff

"This groundbreaking is an exciting milestone for our community," said Joe Snook, Administrator of Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation. "The fieldhouse will help meet the growing demand for indoor court space, provide more opportunities for local athletes and families, and attract regional tournaments that benefit our community."

Designed with spacious spectator viewing areas and flexible court layouts, the fieldhouse will help ease the demand for gym space throughout Lee's Summit while strengthening the city's position as a regional destination for indoor sports.

The facility is anticipated to open in late fall 2027. The approximately $29.5 million project is funded through the voter-approved quarter-cent sales tax dedicated to parks capital improvements.

Groundbreaking Ceremony

Date: Thursday, August 6 (This date has been postponed)
Time: 4:00 p.m.
Location: 201 SW Oldham Parkway, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081

The public is invited to attend and celebrate this exciting milestone for Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation.
