Historic Downtown Transforming with Temporary Sculptures

New Public Art on View

Historic Downtown Transforming with Temporary Sculptures

Walking through Downtown Lee’s Summit you may notice some new sculptures, these large artworks are a part of our 2024 Sculpture Walk. This is an annual rotation was initially established in March of 2020, due to the pandemic it was delayed until late Summer of 2020. While many of us were restricted to outdoor only events, we found a way to amplify our downtown area and provide a way for citizens to engage safely.

Each year the Cultural Arts Division gathers members of the community to score and select the top 7 artworks to be installed within public spaces. The spaces were specifically chosen due to size, traffic and visibility. While there is no theme that is considered for these works, we take into consideration our community and the vision to keep Lee’s Summit aesthetically appealing.

This year, you will see large artworks that are varying in design, shape, and color. Currently we have five artworks on view: Boolean Still Life, Depth of Form, Oxbow, Strut and Time Keeper. We are expecting two more works to be installed by Mid-June to finish out this years’ selection. We hope you take some time this year to tour our 2024 Sculpture Walk and download Otocast for more information on specific artworks and their locations.
