New LSPD Presence at Summit Fair Strengthens Retail Partnerships, Public Safety Efforts

New LSPD Presence at Summit Fair Strengthens Retail Partnerships, Public Safety Efforts

A new Lee’s Summit Police Department satellite office at Summit Fair will give officers another way to connect with businesses, increase visibility in one of the City’s major retail areas, and support ongoing efforts to address organized retail crime.

The Lee’s Summit City Council approved an agreement at its September 22 meeting, allowing the Police Department to operate an approximately 500-square-foot “substation” at Summit Fair at no rental cost through a partnership with the property owner.

The location is anticipated to open during the first week of November and will provide Retail Theft Detectives and officers with a centrally-located workspace, reducing travel time and allowing officers to spend more time within the retail district, offering accessibility to retailers, shoppers, and the surrounding community.

Because staffing hours at the site will vary, the location will not serve as a place for the public to file police reports. Residents who need to file a report in person are encouraged to visit the Lee’s Summit Police Department, 10 NE Tudor Road, or the Police South Substation, 3650 SW Windemere Drive.

The location builds on the existing relationship between LSPD and Lee’s Summit’s retail community. Local businesses and loss-prevention teams regularly share information and work with officers to identify criminal activity, recognize patterns, and respond to incidents affecting retailers and customers.

Addressing organized retail crime has been identified as an area of focus by the City Council. The Summit Fair location puts that priority into practice by bringing officers, information sharing, and business partnerships together in one of the City’s busiest retail areas.

The loss of pressure may cause back pressure or back siphonage and carries with it a potential for contamination or other disease-causing organisms to enter the distribution system. These conditions may pose a risk of substantial health endangerment to...
