City Crews Continue Plowing and Treating Residential Streets Today; Set to Prepare for Next Round of Winter Weather Tonight

The City’s crews continue plowing and treating residential streets today, Thursday, Jan. 11. Crews are 89% complete and now expect to finish this afternoon or early evening. Crews will then be preparing for additional winter weather this evening and overnight into Friday, Jan. 12.

Favorable temperatures today are helping with continued melting on streets. The next storm is expected to begin tonight as rain and will change over to ice and snow as temperatures fall after midnight. Streets may be slick, and drivers should use caution especially on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses. The forecast is calling for accumulations of one inch or less, and crews expect to be treating streets with salt.

Temperatures will be in the single digits by Saturday, Jan. 13, and salt and liquid ice melting products will be much less effective at those lower temperatures. Streets may remain snow packed and slick even after salt treatment, and drivers should continue to use caution.

The City will continue to monitor the weather forecast and update its response accordingly.
