2023 Free Fireworks Show - Legacy Blast - July 3, 2023

Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation, along with the City of Lee's Summit, announce the annual Independence Day-themed fireworks event, Legacy Blast, on Monday, July 3, at Legacy Park. 

Choreographed music will accompany the fireworks display, which will be simulcast on 94.9 KCMO. There will be concessions, food trucks, and DJs at the baseball, soccer, softball, and football venues. Children under the age of 12 can enjoy balloon artists, inflatables, and glitter tattoo artists. 

Joe Snook, Administrator for Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation, shared, “We hope you can join us as we celebrate the birth of our great nation. Legacy Blast is a wonderful community event that culminates with a fantastic fireworks display.” 

Gates for the event will open at 6 p.m. and close at 9:15 p.m. before the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m. The 5th of July will be the rain-out date. Admission into the park is FREE. There will be charges for food and beverage.

GENERAL FAQ

What time will the show start?
•    Around 9:30 pm

When will Legacy Park close?
•    The entrances to the park will close at 9:15 pm to allow for cars to get parked.

Where will the show be shot off from?
•    J. Thomas Lovell Community Center
•    Once you park face your chairs towards the south of the park

How long will the show last?
•    21 minutes

Why are grills, fireworks, and alcohol not allowed?
•    Legacy Blast is a family-friendly event and these items are not allowed for the safety of our patrons.

Is smoking allowed?
•    There is no tobacco use in the parks.

Are dogs allowed?
•    Yes, as long as they remain on a leash

Is the trail open? Do we have access to the trail?
•    No, the trail will be closed so patrons cannot walk up on the blast site.

Can we tailgate?
•    Yes, as long as no alcohol or grills are involved.

What if we have to leave during the show?
•    While it is not encouraged, you may be able to leave the venue once the show begins for emergencies. Please use parking lights only inside the venue and be aware all street lights will be turned off for the show.

What radio station?
•    94.9 FM

Where are the restrooms?
•    Restrooms are located in the concession buildings.

Is there water available?
•    There is a water fountain available inside next to the restrooms.
•    In cases of extreme heat the first aid tent will also have cups of water available.

Is there an ATM?
•    No

How much is…
•    The face painters, glitter tattoo artists, balloon artists, bounce house and show is all free.
•    Concessions, Food Trucks and Vendors will charge

Do concessions take credit cards?
•    Each vendor may have different requirements. Some may take cards. Some may only take cash.

Do we have to be residents?

Why is J. Thomas Lovell Community Center Closed?
•    The facility will close at 4 pm 
•    LSPR staff and LSPD need to prepare for the event.
•    LCC serves as the blast site and command center for the event
