The City of Lee’s Summit will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. to celebrate the completion of Hangar 2, a state-of-the-art facility at the Kansas City – Lee’s Summit Regional Airport (LXT). The event will take place at 2740 NE Hagan Road.
Hangar 2 represents a major investment in the City’s growing regional airport and supports Lee’s Summit’s commitment to expanding aviation opportunities, workforce development and economic growth. The project includes a 46,000-square-foot facility featuring aircraft storage, office space, first-class amenities for aviation customers, an observation deck, FBO operations and Summit Tech's Aerospace Academy, offering students and aspiring pilots access to real-world aviation instruction and training opportunities.

The City of Lee’s Summit will host its annual RecycleFEST from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 1, at the City’s Maintenance Facility, 1971 SE Hamblen Road. This free event gives residents the opportunity to recycle or responsibly dispose of a wide range of everyday items that often end up in landfills.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. generated approximately 292 million tons of municipal solid waste in 2018, and about 94 million tons (32.1 %) were recycled or composted. RecycleFEST encourages residents to help close the gap by recycling and reusing materials that conserve resources, reduce landfill waste and protect the environment.

The City of Lee’s Summit will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. at the railroad bridge on Northwest Colbern Road to mark the official opening of Colbern Road, the largest capital infrastructure project to date in the City’s history.
The $30 million Colbern Road Improvements Project, which began in September 2023, was funded by the 2017 Capital Improvement Sales Tax, water and sewer funds, and grants through the federal Surface Transportation Program and the Governor’s Transportation Cost-Share Program. The project addresses decades of traffic congestion, safety concerns and infrastructure needs along Colbern Road between Northeast Douglas Street and Northwest Blue Parkway. The City of Lee’s Summit is partnering with the Community Blood Center to host a community blood drive on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 1–5 p.m. at Green Street Market, 209 SE Green St. All registered donors will receive a free Kansas City Chiefs T-shirt while supplies last.
Whole blood is the most common type of donation and can be given every 56 days. Double red cell donations collect two units of red blood cells in one visit and can be given every four months. Both types are critical for treating accident victims, surgery patients and people battling cancer or chronic illnesses. One donation can help save multiple lives in the community.
