The City of Lee's Summit is partnering with the Community Blood Center to host a blood drive to replenish the area's blood supply. The drive will be held on Thursday, March 13, from 1-5 p.m. at Harris Park Community Center, 110 SW Blue Parkway. The blood drive aims to address the critical need for blood donations in the region. All eligible community members are encouraged to participate. One hour spent donating can save up to three lives. Donors can register at savealifenow.org/group using the group code KCJN. Specific requirements apply to blood donors. They must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good overall health. Sixteen year olds can donate with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. Donors should drink fluids and eat a good meal before donating blood. Appointments are strongly recommended. The City of Lee's Summit's Human Relations Commission is promoting kindness in the community during Take Time To Be Kind Week, Feb. 10-15. Community members are encouraged to perform random and purposeful acts of kindness to promote positivity. These acts can be as simple as writing a letter of appreciation, giving a small care package to a co-worker, volunteering at a local organization or practicing self-care through journaling. The public is asked to share their acts of kindness on social media using #LSKindness. The Human Relations Commission will host activities, including a Gratitude Station and a Kindness Passport. Community members are invited to visit the Gratitude Station in the lobby of City Hall during business hours to create cards and signs with thoughtful messages that they can share to spread kindness and appreciation throughout the community. The City of Lee’s Summit is accepting applications from eligible voters in District 4 who are interested in serving on the City Council. Applications for the vacant seat are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 29. The appointment fills the vacancy in District 4 created by Fred DeMoro's resignation. The selected candidate will serve as a member of the City Council until the next municipal election in April 2026. District 4 residents interested in applying must file in person at the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, 220 SE Green St. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, reside, and be a registered voter in District 4. The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to announce the selection of Cori Day as the executive director of the newly formed Lee’s Summit Visitors Bureau. Day begins her position on Jan. 6 where she will develop and manage the City’s newly created destination marketing/management organization. With over 22 years of experience in the tourism industry, Day brings expertise in strategic planning, sales and marketing, and destination development. Day has spent the last six years as director of sales for Worlds of Fun and executive director of the Missouri Travel Alliance. During her career Day has worked in roles to increase tourism activities for municipalities, including sales manager for the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau, director of tourism for the City of Independence and vice president of sales and services for Visit KC. The City of Lee’s Summit received a formal letter of resignation from City Councilmember Fred DeMoro on December 11, effective immediately.DeMoro, who represented District 4, stated in a letter to Mayor Baird that he has chosen to step down to prioritize his health and well-being.

“I have truly enjoyed serving as a Fourth District Council member for the City of Lee's Summit. It has been rewarding and fulfilling work,” said Councilmember DeMoro. “Due to recent health setbacks and medical conditions, I have come to understand that my health and my family must take priority.”
