On Monday, January 15, 2024, at 4:45 p.m., the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 5800 Block of NW Plantation Lane. Multiple 911 calls from neighbors reported a car fire in the garage spreading to the fourplex and an explosion.
When the fire department arrived, the fire heavily involved an attached, single-car garage of a two-story fourplex. All building occupants were safe outside.
Firefighters quickly attacked the fire in the garage and the attic above it, containing the fire to the garage. A search of the structure confirmed that everyone was out, and there was no fire spread to the living area of the involved unit or adjacent units. The incident was under control by 5:06 p.m.

Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation has been awarded a $250,000 Recreational Trails Program Grant for the future trail along Mouse Creek in south Lee’s Summit. The grant was given through the Missouri Natural Resources Division of State Parks. This is the largest amount LSPR has received for a local trail project.
The Mouse Creek Trail will consist of 1.2 miles of paved trail. It will feature a low-water crossing and a pre-cast truss bridge for stream crossing along the creek. The east trail segment will begin just north of Hook Road and Pryor Road and continue west to Eagle Creek Park and connect to existing trails. The trail improvements will then continue at the west end of Eagle Creek Park and continue onto undeveloped “Park West” property near Sampson Road in Lee’s Summit.

Newman begins her position on Jan. 6, where she will provide overall management, control and direction for the Information Technology Division. Newman will lead a staff of 33 professionals and oversee a budget of approximately $6 million.
Newman brings more than 30 years of experience providing informational technology and strategic leadership in both the private and public sectors, most recently serving as project manager for the City of Lee’s Summit’s Information Technology Division since August of 2023.
