The City of Lee’s Summit is pleased to acknowledge its commitment to solar-friendly best practices. Lee’s Summit has been a longstanding partner with the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) and twenty-five other local governments in the Kansas City metropolitan region as part of the Solar Ready KC and Solar Ready II initiatives.
As part of the Rooftop Solar Challenge, MARC developed a program to recognize local communities for their efforts implementing solar best management practices. Over the course of the last five years Lee’s Summit and its partner communities have made coordinated efforts to make the Kansas City region solar ready.
Lee’s Summit has further committed to become a SolSmart-designated community. Lee’s Summit has partnered with the SolSmart team, MARC and partner communities to improve solar market conditions, making it faster, easier and more affordable to install solar energy systems.
The SolSmart designation program builds upon our community’s participation in Solar Ready KC and Solar Ready II, which resulted in the identification, codification and implementation of solar best management practices. As part of the Solar Ready designation program, Lee’s Summit received the Silver level honor by:
- Addressing solar energy in its zoning ordinance;
- Making solar-ready construction guidelines available;
- Creating a solar landing page; and
- Providing links to MARC’s solar mapping website
Lee’s Summit is committed to driving continual improvement in our solar market. For more information on the SolSmart program please visit www.solsmart.org. You may also visit www.marc.org/Environment/Energy and www.kcsolarmap.org for additional information pertaining to solar energy.
Permits are required for all solar panel installations. Below is a guideline for solar installations and a permit application checklist.
