Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Enhances Accessibility with Grant From eitas

Lee’s Summit, MO – Eitas has awarded Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation (LSPR) a $7,776 grant to enhance accessibility and inclusion within the community. LSPR has utilized these funds to equip all three aquatic facilities with accessible wheelchairs, walkers, and flotation devices, ensuring greater access for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.

Aquatic therapy offers numerous benefits for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including:

  • Physical Benefits – The buoyancy of water reduces the impact of poor balance and posture, allowing for easier movement. Water therapy also supports skill development in head and neck stability, trunk strength, and mobility.
  • Sensory Stimulation – Water provides visual, tactile, and olfactory stimulation, creating a calming and engaging environment.
  • Mental Benefits – Being underwater can improve concentration, increase alertness, and reduce anxiety, helping individuals focus and engage more effectively.
  • Enjoyment and Recreation – Aquatic activities offer a fun, motivating, and inclusive way for individuals to participate in exercise and leisure.

LSPR remains committed to fostering an inclusive environment and removing barriers to aquatic access. By investing in additional accessibility devices, LSPR is expanding opportunities for all patrons to enjoy its facilities without concern for physical limitations. This initiative promotes social interaction, physical well-being, and a sense of belonging for individuals of all abilities.

For more information on utilizing this accessible equipment, please contact LSPR Inclusion Coordinator Jodi Jordan at Jodi.Jordan@cityofls.net or 816-969-1526.
