Public Hearing for M291 North Interchange at US 50 Highway Improvements Project Set for Oct. 3

Online Public Hearing Also Offered Oct. 3 Through Oct. 17

The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), will host an in-person public hearing to discuss the design for the M291 North Interchange at US 50 Highway Improvements Project on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 220 SE Green Street in Lee’s Summit, Mo. The public will have an opportunity to view project plans and exhibits and provide feedback. There will be no formal presentation and the hearing will be open house style; the public can come and go as schedules allow. Project plans and exhibits prepared by the City of Lee’s Summit, MoDOT and the design consultant Olsson will be available to view, and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the project and offer comments.

An online public hearing format also will be offered from 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, through 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, and can be found on MoDOT’s website: https://www.modot.org/missouri-route-291-north-and-us-route-50-interchange-improvements-jackson. During this timeframe the public will have the opportunity to review the same project plans and exhibits that will be available at the in-person event, and can submit comments or questions through the online public hearing website.

The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and functionality of the overall transportation system in the area as well as replace obsolete infrastructure to address the existing level of service, accommodate growth and facilitate economic activity. The project improvements include a new bridge structure, ramp reconstruction, US 50 pavement reconstruction between ramps, and realignment of Blue Parkway. The project is estimated to begin in late summer or early fall 2024, and is expected to be complete by the end of 2025. There are a variety of funding sources for the project including the statewide cost share program, surface transportation block grant program, tax increment financing (TIF), City excise tax, 2017 Capital Improvement Sales Tax, and water construction funds.
