Lee’s Summit Accepting Applications for Open District 4 City Council Seat

The City of Lee’s Summit is accepting applications from eligible voters in District 4 who are interested in serving on the City Council. Applications for the vacant seat are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 29.

The appointment fills the vacancy in District 4 created by Fred DeMoro's resignation. The selected candidate will serve as a member of the City Council until the next municipal election in April 2026.

District 4 residents interested in applying must file in person at the City Clerk’s Office in City Hall, 220 SE Green St. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, reside, and be a registered voter in District 4. To learn more about eligibility and the application and selection processes, visit cityofls.net/vacancy.

The City Council will conduct interviews and appoint a member during a special meeting on Feb. 11. During the meeting, each eligible candidate will give an opening statement, answer preselected questions submitted by councilmembers and the public, and provide a closing statement. Public Comment will be held for those wishing to speak in support of a candidate. The council may ask follow-up questions before voting and making the appointment.

The public is invited to submit questions for the candidates by emailing them to the City Clerk’s Office at CityClerkOffice@cityofls.net. Submitted questions will be shared with the City Council for review and consideration.

A section of Southeast Fourth Street between Southeast Timbercreek Lane and Southeast Todd George Parkway is set to close on Monday, Oct. 27, until Monday, Nov. 17 (postponed and extended due to weather and utility conflicts from Monday, Oct. 23, through Monday, Nov. 3).
