City of Lee’s Summit to Celebrate the Grand Opening of Green Street Aug. 15-17

City of Lee’s Summit to Celebrate the Grand Opening of Green Street Aug. 15-17

The City of Lee’s Summit is inviting the public to experience the excitement of Green Street, the City’s newest outdoor destination in the heart of Downtown Lee’s Summit, during its Grand Opening Weekend, Aug. 15-17. This bold, vibrant gathering space includes a flexible indoor event venue that will be home to the popular Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market, a covered outdoor performance area, public art, gathering spaces and an immersive playground.

“This is a proud moment for our City. Whether you live in Lee’s Summit or are visiting, Green Street offers new experiences and activities for all to enjoy, helping to make Lee’s Summit a regional destination,” said Mayor Bill Baird. “Created with community at its core, this development is a testament to what’s possible when a city listens, dreams big and invests in its future.”

The vision for an open-air, year-round community space dates back to 2007, when city leaders, residents and stakeholders began working on priorities for cultural arts and facilities. The journey from vision to reality was driven by years of collaboration, community input and thoughtful planning.

Built on 2.76 acres, the mixed-use development, located at 209 SE Green St., centers around the Green Street Market, the indoor Farmers Market and event space. When the market is not in session, the 17,140-square-foot building will serve the community as a unique event space. Ten retractable garage-style doors open to the Green Street Lawn, a versatile outdoor performance venue with a canopy-covered turf lawn that will host live entertainment and other large events throughout the year.

Connecting to the Green Street Market is the Green Street Grove, a tree-lined walkway under massive arches that offers gathering spaces in a park-like setting surrounded by public art pieces

Surrounding the market, Green Street will grow to include a mix of private uses that complement the public spaces. Future plans include a restaurant, hotel and residential options. This blend of uses will create a destination that’s active day and night, seven days a week.

LANE4 Property Group serves as the master developer of the project, bringing expertise in commercial development and community engagement to guide the vision for the project from concept to completion. Their work continues as they lead efforts to bring future private improvements to the space. Tessere Architecture led the design team as the master architect, bringing vision to life with functional, community-focused design that elevates both public and private spaces. McGownGordan Construction served as the construction manager, overseeing day-to-day progress and ensuring quality execution throughout the project.

Grand Opening festivities for Green Street will kick off Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. with a ribbon cutting led by Mayor Bill Baird, followed by a Block Party complete with live music, food trucks and beverage trucks. Saturday’s Family Fun Day begins with the inaugural Farmers Market at 8 a.m. The celebration will continue throughout the weekend with a packed lineup of live music and entertainment, food trucks, yoga on the lawn and activities for the entire community.
