City of Lee’s Summit City Council Resignation

The City of Lee’s Summit received a formal letter of resignation from City Councilmember Fred DeMoro on December 11, effective immediately. DeMoro, who represented District 4, stated in a letter to Mayor Baird that he has chosen to step down to prioritize his health and well-being.

“I have truly enjoyed serving as a Fourth District Council member for the City of Lee's Summit. It has been rewarding and fulfilling work,” said Councilmember DeMoro. “Due to recent health setbacks and medical conditions, I have come to understand that my health and my family must take priority.”

Mayor Bill Baird expressed his appreciation for DeMoro’s service to the community. "Throughout his tenure on the City Council, Fred has been a staunch advocate for improving infrastructure, maintaining high standards for public safety and maintaining the City’s healthy financial reserves,” said Mayor Baird. “We thank Fred for 13 years of service and commitment to the citizens of Lee’s Summit.”

Under the City Charter, the City Council determines the process of appointing a qualified person to fill the vacancy until the next regular municipal election.
