Apartment Building Damaged by Fire

Apartment Building Damaged by Fire

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — The Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Strasbourg Apartments, located at 3 NW O'Brien Road, on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 6:33 p.m.

A resident reported smoke filling their ground-floor apartment but no visible flames. A neighboring occupant noted a "pop" sound and the power going out before smelling smoke. The callers evacuated the building.

When firefighters arrived, nothing was visible from the outside of the three-story garden apartment. Inside, smoke alarms were sounding, and light smoke was present. Firefighters located the fire burning in the wall separating the two ground-floor apartments, as well as in the ceiling and utility spaces of the floor above. They opened the walls and ceilings to quickly extinguish the fire in the concealed areas. A further check confirmed all occupants were safely out of the building, and the fire had not spread further. The incident was brought under control by 7:12 p.m.

The fire caused damage to the wall and ceiling spaces between the two ground-floor apartments and two apartments on the second floor, with light smoke damage throughout all three floors. The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents from six apartments, while the other units in the building were cleared for reoccupation.
