Public Hearing for Ward and Persels Intersection Improvements Project Set for Nov. 1

Online Public Hearing Also Offered Nov. 1 Through Nov. 15

The City of Lee’s Summit will host an in-person public hearing to discuss the design for the Ward and Persels Intersection Improvements project from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at Pleasant Lea Middle School, located at 630 SW Persels Road in Lee’s Summit, Mo. 64081. The public will have an opportunity to view project plans and exhibits and provide feedback. There will be no formal presentation and the hearing will be open house style; the public can come and go as schedules allow. Project plans and exhibits prepared by the City’s design consultant Garver USA will be available to view, and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the project and offer comments.

An online public hearing format also will be offered from 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, and can be found at https://wardpersels.transportationplanroom.com. During this timeframe the public will have the opportunity to review the same project plans and exhibits that will be available at the in-person event, and can submit comments or questions through the online public hearing website.

The project improvements include the consolidation of the two off-set T intersections of Persels into one intersection. The north T intersection of Persels at Ward will be shifted south to realign with the south T intersection on the west side of Ward Road. In addition to the realignment of the intersection, access management, safety and capacity will be addressed along Ward Road through the intersection and to the south with the addition of turn lanes and medians.  This project also includes connectivity with the Rock Island Trail, street lights, traffic signal consolidation, waterline relocation and replacement, and storm sewer repairs and replacement. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2024, and be completed in late fall 2025. Funding includes the Capital Improvement Sales Tax, a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) federal grant, and water and sewer funds.
