Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport Rebranded as Kansas City – Lee’s Summit Regional Airport

The City of Lee’s Summit has officially rebranded the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport to Kansas City – Lee’s Summit Regional Airport, a change that reflects its role as a key regional gateway for business and leisure travel. The new brand and refreshed look enhance the airport's identity within the Kansas City metropolitan area, underscoring its significance as an economic driver connecting the area to regional and national markets.

The City purchased the airport in 1977. Since then, the airport has steadily improved its facilities and amenities to meet the needs of business and recreational users. Key improvements include the 2016 purchase of Hangar 1, a 40,000-square-foot heated hangar, and a 5,501-foot runway extension to support corporate aviation. Today, as Kansas City – Lee’s Summit Regional Airport, it continues to improve with the development of Hangar 2, a 45,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility set to open in October, and a refreshed logo and website, all designed to enhance the experience for pilots, passengers and visitors. In October, the airport will break ground on a 12,500-square-foot passenger terminal building located next to Hangar 2 to further expand services for travelers.

In conjunction with the renaming, the airport’s Fixed Base Operator has been officially branded as Summit Aero, aligning with the refreshed airport identity, while continuing to provide the airport’s consistent and reliable full-service FBO aviation support. The new FBO, located in Hangar 2, will offer a modern passenger waiting area and lobby, full concierge service, pilot lounge, flight planning area and observation deck. Other services provided by special aviation service operators at the airport include flight training, aircraft maintenance, inspections, and avionics repair and maintenance, strengthening the airport’s position as a regional aviation center.
